Can you shave a ragdoll
The guard hairs may be just part of the make up of the coat. However, I have noticed that the guard hairs on my cats disappeared over time. Raggies have a wonderful big, floofy ruff around their neck. This features usually becomes more pronounced as they mature. I think it makes the cat look very elegant and proud.
Their coats are really not prone so much to matting. However, as my Ragdolls aged, they did develop some matts on their tummy area. I simply would help them out, by carefully and gently, cutting out the mats. When they were older, my groomer shaved them and gave them a lion cut. This not only helped with getting rid of those nasty belly knots. It also helped them remain more comfortable in the heat of the summer. The bottom line is this. The Ragdoll cat is essentially a long haired cat.
And long haired cats shed, period. It goes with the territory. The climate, change of season and their diet will also significantly affect the amount of shedding. My babes develop a thicker, heavier coat in early winter. So of course, they get rid of that heavier coat in the spring season. B Coats provide insulation from heat as much as from cold. An insulated cat is far better equipped to deal with any temperature changes - and considering that your cats are probably in an air-conditioned environment, you need to consider how cold that it for a "naked" animal.
As much of a pain as it is, you just need to brush and brush and then brush again. I shaved my ragdoll four times this past summer.
Unlike other cat coats that are shaved, her shaved coat looked GREAT, not choppy cat coats rarely look nice and even shaved down. She was still incredibly soft and it grew out really nicely. It was a welcome break from the hair, grew back in time for the cooler weather and she looked really cute. It wasn't shaved all the way up to her jawline, but more behind the front legs.
Haha, she managed quite nicely in the air-conditioned environment being a 'naked' animal Now that she is grown back out, I brush daily with a long-handled flea comb Originally Posted by no kudzu.

So, to completely get rid of them, shaving the hair of the cat might be necessary in addition to other treatments. When the hair is really matted, it can be very painful for the cat when you brush it. Click here to join for free! JavaScript is disabled.

Everyone has been a great help in the past. I have male ragdoll, he is 8 months now and from what I've read its shedding season and the loss of hair is becoming unbearable. He sleeps on my bed with me and my bed is constantly covered. As well as clothes and the carpet and tiles has a lot of hair everywhere. I live in Australia and summer has just begun so its going to be getting hotter and hotter. Is shaving his coat the right thing to do?
To help with all the shedding and also that it might get hot for him on the summer days in my apartment. Will shaving him affect his coat later on? Will he be able to grow it nice and long again for winter? Any advice would be great or stories about shaving your cat previously. You really shouldn't shave a longhaired cat unless they get severely matted or are extremely aggressive when it comes to grooming.
Get an undercoat rake and go crazy! Or take him to the groomer and ask for the shedding special. Joined Jan 22, Messages Purraise He is absolutely gorgeous! You are in for a treat - ragdolls are simply phenomenal cats The hair can be a challenge and shaving him is a real option.
I would take him to a groomer to have it done but know that as a color point cat it will likely significantly darken his coat.
